Swea City man charged with voluntary manslaughter

ALGONA – A Swea City man is charged with voluntary manslaughter after a physical altercation resulted in the death of another man, according to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office.

The death of Casey Tobin, 41, of Swea City, has been under investigation since April 3.

He was found unconscious on that date at about 8 p.m. on the corner of Howard Street and Third Avenue East in Swea City.

Robert Dwaine Laverty, 51, was arrested Thursday in connection to Tobin’s death, the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office reported.

According to the criminal complaint, Laverty intentionally caused the death of Tobin.

Laverty is charged with voluntary manslaughter, a class C felony.

He is being held in the Kossuth County Jail on a cash only bond amount of $10,000 cash only and an unsecured bond of $100,000.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 5.
