Humboldt man injured in motorcycle crash
HUMBOLDT — A Humboldt man suffered serious injuries after crashing his motorcycle east of Dakota City, according to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash was reported at 10:57 p.m. on Thursday.
Nicklaus Mathis, 35, was riding a Kawasaki motorcycle westbound on 230th Street.
Mathis lost control of the motorcycle as he approached the curve near the entrance to Dakota City Access.
He was thrown from the motorcycle. Mathis was found by first responders lying on the roadway. The motorcycle came to rest in the south ditch.
Mathis suffered incapacitating injuries, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
He was transported to the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital by ambulance and later air lifted to a Des Moines hospital for further treatment.
The motorcycle is considered a total loss.
It is not believed that Mathis was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, Humboldt Police Department, Iowa State Patrol and Humboldt EMS responded.
The Humboldt Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate.
