Fort Dodge firefighters assess the scene at Casey's, 1320 A St., after a gas pump briefly caught fire. The fire was reported at about 5:50 p.m. According to Capt. Steve Teske, of the Fort Dodge Fire Department, two employees immediately shut off the gas inside and used two different extinguishers to put out the flames. He described the employee's actions as "quick thinking, quick reaction." Once on scene, firefighters used thermal imaging on the pump. Teske said the temperature at that time was still over 120 degrees where it had burned. Absorbent material was laid on the gas leak. The pumps were roped off with caution tape and could be out of service until repairs are made. The pump ended up laid down after the driver at the pump drove away while the nozzle was still inside the tank.
