Construction of a new sanitary sewer line that will help to make further development of the northeast side of Fort Dodge possible was approved by the City Council Monday.
The new line will extend north from the area of 32nd Street and 10th Avenue North.
The council hired Rasch Construction, of Fort Dodge, to build the line at a cost of $388,460.
Councilmen Andy Fritz and Jeff Halter were absent from the otherwise unanimous vote to award the contract.
Other bidders for the job were Hurst & Sons, Waterloo, $472,071.50; Crow River Construction, New London, Minnesota, $479,985; Brian Nettleson Excavating, Joice, $510,920; S.M. Hentges, Jordan, Minnesota, $554,243; J & K Contracting, Urbandale, $575,575; and Riley-Armstrong Plumbing and Heating, Fort Dodge, $621,943.
In an unrelated matter, the council hired Iowa Athletic Field Construction, of Webster City, to do some work on the baseball version of Dodger Stadium.
It is located in the mini majors section of Harlan and Hazel Rogers Sports Complex. There are four scaled-down versions of famous Major League Baseball venues there. They are Dodger Stadium, Yankee Stadium, Wrigley Field and Fenway Park. The mini majors area opened in 2008.
Iowa Athletic Field Construction will grade Dodger Stadium and replace the infield. It will be paid $43,978.
Iowa Sports Turf Management, of Des Moines, offered a bid of $56,100.
Lastly, the council purchased a new garbage truck with two mechanical arms for lifting and emptying containers. It will replace a 2014 model that has one mechanical am.
The new truck will cost $372,374.02.
That price includes $168,758.02 to Rees Truck and Trailer, of Fort Dodge, for a Mack truck chassis and $203,616 to Kilburg Equipment, of Sabula, for the garbage truck body.
