Railroad crossing safety upgrades coming

Safety features will be added to a railroad grade crossing on a rural Webster County road.

Webster County Engineer Jamie Johll said gate arms, flashing lights and bells will be added to the spot where Union Pacific Railroad tracks cross 260th Street between Fairbanks and Garfield avenues.

That location is south of Moorland.

The Iowa Department of Transportation and the railroad will pay for the project.

The county Board of Supervisors approved the work Tuesday morning.

Also Tuesday, the board approved closing two bridges that have deteriorated into unsafe condition.

One of those bridges is on 390th Street east of Fairbanks Avenue.

The other is on 340th Street east of Racine Avenue.
