Fort Dodge man convicted in Casey’s robbery

McGee faces up to 25 years in prison

Aries McGee

A Webster County jury has convicted a Fort Dodge man of committing an armed robbery at Casey’s General Store, 2007 N. 15th St.

Aries Nzgoi McGee, 24, was found guilty of first-degree robbery, a Class B forcible felony, on Friday.

McGee was accused of flashing a handgun at the store clerk and demanding money from the register and safe on Oct. 28, 2020. McGee left the convenience store with $282 in cash.

The robbery was discovered after a 911 hang up call from the Casey’s General Store came into the Webster County Telecommunications Center just before midnight. Officers were sent after dispatchers attempted to call the store back and received no answer.

The morning after the robbery, McGee was arrested in a traffic stop after officers spotted the same vehicle seen at the crime scene in traffic on North 15th Street near Oakland Cemetery.

McGee’s jury trial started earlier this week after a jury was selected on Tuesday.

The prosecution is “very pleased” with the conviction, Assistant Webster County Attorney Bailey Taylor told The Messenger.

“With the hard work from officers and cooperation of witnesses from the community, we were able to secure a fair and just verdict,” she said.

McGee faces a sentence of up to 25 years in prison, with a mandatory minimum of 17.5 years. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for May 21 at the Webster County Courthouse.
