A Fort Dodge man was arrested Monday afternoon after police received reports of a physical altercation on one street and unsubstantiated reports of shots fired on another street.
Josh Kiplinger, 29, is charged with carrying weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor, and fifth-degree criminal mischief, a simple misdemeanor.
The Webster County Telecommunications Center received a report of an assault in the 300 block of First Street Northwest shortly after 4 p.m., with information indicating two men had a physical altercation before one left the area. Later, Fort Dodge Police said they learned both went to the 700 block of Seventh Avenue North, where the argument continued.
"The initial information provided indicated that one or two shots were fired at a residence, however there were no witnesses that observed shots being fired," said Capt. Ryan Gruenberg, public information officer. "This certainly may have been the case, but at this time we can't say for sure if any shots were indeed fired. There was no damage located at the residence."
Gruenberg said that investigators discovered that one of the men cut the other's vehicle tire after the First Street Northwest altercation, resulting in Kiplinger's charges. He said Kiplinger followed the other man to Seventh Avenue North and argued with him there before leaving the area.
Fort Dodge Police continue to investigate the incident and encourage anyone with information to contact them at 515-573-2323.
