Weight limits placed on two Webster County bridges
New weight limits have been placed on a pair of bridges in rural Webster County.
One of those bridges is on 390th Street between Hayes and Indiana avenues. The new weight limits there are:
• 21 tons for straight bed trucks
• 32 tons for tractor trailers
• 34 tons for trucks with two trailers
The other bridge is on 240th Street between Johnson and Kansas avenues. The new weight limits there are:
• 24 tons for straight bed trucks
• 35 tons for tractor trailers
• 36 tons for trucks with two trailers
The county Board of Supervisors approved the new limits Tuesday morning.
There are 184 bridges in Webster County, according to County Engineer Jamie Johll. He said a consultant inspects half of the bridges every year and develops a rating of their condition. An inspection resulted in the weight limits imposed Tuesday.
Johll said eight bridges will be replaced this year. Construction is underway on one of those bridges on 170th Street, he said.
Contracts for replacing the remaining seven bridges are expected to be awarded in March.
