Homicide at Prestage

Authorities: Victim stabbed in employee locker room

EAGLE GROVE — One person is dead following a Tuesday morning stabbing in the employee locker room at the Prestage Foods of Iowa pork processing plant, according to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

Investigators said the suspect and victim knew each other.

The Wright County Sheriff’s Office was called to the facility, located at 3813 Iowa Highway 17, at 5:42 a.m. for a report of a stabbing.

Upon arrival, deputies found a deceased person in the locker room area of the plant.

A suspect, who was not identified on Tuesday, is in custody.

Prestage released the following statement regarding the crime:

“There was an incident between two individuals resulting in a fatality at the plant in Eagle Grove this morning. The Wright County Sheriff’s Office is investigating with the Iowa DCI. Due to that ongoing investigation, we defer any questions to the Wright County Sheriff’s Office.”

The Wright County Sheriff’s Office deferred questions to the DCI. No further information was available Tuesday night.

Investigators were on scene throughout the morning and afternoon.

The name of the victim is anticipated to be released today.

Prestage opened its sprawling $350 million plant in the spring of 2019. More than 800 people work there. About 8,500 pigs are slaughtered at the plant daily.
