ALGONA — The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation received a request to assist the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office regarding a welfare check associated with an animal neglect investigation in Whittemore on Monday.

The DCI Crime Scene Team assisted at a residence at 407 Clay St. after officers secured the scene. The DCI continues to assist in the ongoing investigation. No further details about the incident were provided in a news release Tuesday.

The Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office was called to Clay Street on Sunday about an animal neglect investigation, where deputies “discovered what they perceived to be a potential concern of safety,” a news release from the Sheriff’s Office said.

The Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the Multi Area Response Team to assist with the ongoing investigation. There is no immediate concern for safety, the release said.
