Casey’s robbery suspect pleads not guilty

The Fort Dodge man charged in the Oct. 29 robbery of the Casey’s General Store on North 15th Street has pleaded not guilty, according to a written arraignment filed Monday.

Aries McGee, 24, was charged with first-degree robbery, a Class B felony, and fifth-degree theft, a simple misdemeanor, after Fort Dodge Police said he flashed a handgun at the clerk and left with $282 from the cash register and safe.

The morning after the alleged robbery, he was arrested in a traffic stop after officers spotted the same vehicle seen at the crime scene in traffic on North 15th Street near Oakland Cemetery.

The robbery was discovered after a 911 hang up call from the Casey’s General Store came into the Webster County Telecommunications Center just before midnight on Oct. 28. Officers were dispatched after dispatchers attempted to call the store back with no answer.

Police said McGee demanded money from the store clerk after flashing a handgun. No injuries were reported.
