Teen shot in foot on Monday
Fort Dodge Police are investigating a shot fired Monday evening that left a 17-year-old with a foot wound.
Officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of Sixth Avenue North in reference to someone being shot at approximately 7:40 p.m. Upon arrival, they learned that the victim had been transported to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center by a private vehicle.
After finding the teenager shot in the foot at the hospital, officers learned that he had been speaking with a family member in the alley near the reported location when a gun the relative was holding was discharged.
“Little information was provided to law enforcement as to the exact timeline of those events and we are still working to piece that together to determine exactly what happened,” said Capt. Ryan Gruenberg, public information officer. “At this point we do not have enough information to determine whether this was an accidental discharge or something more.”
