FD police continue investigating shooting

The Fort Dodge Police Department are continuing to investigate a shooting that occurred just before 7 p.m. on Sunday night, according to a press release from the department.

At 6:58 p.m., police were dispatched to the 1600 block of Fourth Avenue South for a call of shots fired. Moments later, the Fort Dodge Fire Department was called in for a female gunshot victim.

The victim, a 16-year-old female who has not been identified by police yet, was taken to UnityPoint Health – Trinity Regional Medical Center by ambulance and treated for life-threatening injuries before later being transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines for further care.

According to FDPD, there is no suspect information as of Monday morning. The department will continue to investigate this incident as an attempted murder and asks that anyone with information to contact the police at 515-573-2323. It is believed that this was an isolated incident and not a random act.

FDPD was assisted on the scene by the Webster County Sheriff’s Office, FDFD and the Iowa State Patrol.
