Crash sends one man to hospital

One man was taken to the hospital by ambulance after a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Second Avenue North and North 32nd Street on Thursday. The crash was reported at about 3 p.m. According to Fort Dodge Police Department reports, Julie Berneman, 56, of Belmond, was driving a 2017 Chevrolet C45 eastbound on Second Avenue North. She stopped at the stop sign and thought the intersection was a three-way stop. Berneman then proceeded to turn north on North 32nd Street. That’s when her vehicle collided with a 2012 Chevrolet passenger van driven by Tim Gailey, 23, of Fort Dodge. After that collision, Gailey continued south where his vehicle collided with another vehicle, a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado driven by David Hannon, 26, of Barnum. Tim Gailey’s brother, Shane Gailey, suffered a laceration to his chin and reported pain in his knees. He was transported to UnityPoint Health - Trinity Regional Medical Center by ambulance. Berneman was cited for failure to yield. The Fort Dodge Police Department and Fort Dodge Fire Department responded.
