An inmate at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility assaulted a correctional officer this afternoon around 1:30 p.m., according to the Iowa Department of Corrections.

The officer was escorting an inmate to their cell when the inmate assaulted the officer with closed-fist strikes to the officer’s face.

Additional staff arrived quickly to secure the inmate and during the incident, another officer suffered minor injuries.

The officer who was assaulted was taken to UnityPoint Health – Trinity Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries and has since been released. The other injured officer was treated and released by FDCF medical staff. The inmate did not have any major injuries, according to the DOC.

This incident remains under investigation.
