Semi driver cited for running stop sign

An Eagle Grove driver was transported to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center Monday morning after colliding with a semi-trailer that failed to stop at an intersection.

A semi-trailer traveling west on County Highway D14 failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Nelson Avenue at about 11:30 a.m. Eagle Grover motorist Deborah Burres, traveling south on Nelson Avenue, hit the semi-trailer on its front passenger side, totaling her 2011 Chevrolet Impala with an estimated $25,000 worth of damage.

Burres, 68, was transported via ambulance to TRMC with possible injuries, which were not specified in the report. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.

Grand Island, Nebraska, semi-trailer driver Mike Ike, 61, was cited for failure to obey a stop sign. The Iowa State Patrol’s incident report indicated that he was distracted from the road while reaching for objects or fallen objects in his cab.
