FDPD investigating shooting

The Fort Dodge Police Department is investigating an early morning shooting that sent one young woman to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

According to a release from the FDPD, at approximately 2:15 a.m. on Sunday, the Webster County Telecommunications Center was informed that an 18-year-old female had arrived at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Regional Medical Center with “at least one gunshot wound.”

Officers said the victim was transported to TRMC by private vehicle. She sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a Des Moines hospital for further treatment.

According to the release, as officers began to investigate, they learned that the victim was in a vehicle at the time of the shooting in the 400 block of South 14th Street.

“Information gathered at this time indicates one or more individuals from one vehicle fired at the vehicle occupied by the victim,” the release said.

The female victim, who has not been identified by authorities, was the only individual to sustain injuries, the police said.

The FDPD was assisted on the scene by the Webster County Sheriff’s Office. The incident remains under investigation by the FDPD, along with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations.
