FD man charged with attempted murder
Lewil accused of shooting 18-year-old woman
A Fort Dodge man appeared in Webster County Magistrate Court Monday for an attempted murder charge stemming from a shooting early Sunday morning.
Denharrio K. Lewil, 18, is accused of trying to kill someone after an 18-year-old woman was shot in the 400 block of South 14th Street around 2 a.m. Sunday.
Criminal complaints said that Lewil fired a semi-automatic pistol multiple times at someone in the middle of the road. It’s unclear from criminal complaints whether the intended target and the shooting victim are the same person.
The Webster County Law Enforcement Center received information that the shooting victim, transported to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center by private vehicle, arrived with “at least” one life-threatening gunshot wound, according to a Sunday news release from the Fort Dodge Police Department. The victim was subsequently transferred to a Des Moines hospital.
Officers determined that the victim was shot in a vehicle by one or more people from another vehicle. She was the only one that sustained injuries during the shooting.
An update on the shooting victim’s condition was not available at press time.
