Explosion at Gilmore City home injures 49-year-old man

He was airlifted to Des Moines hospital

GILMORE CITY – A 49-year-old man suffered injuries to his hands, arms and upper torso after an explosion was reported at a Gilmore City home Tuesday afternoon, according to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.

The explosion was reported to the Humboldt County Law Enforcement Center at 12:51 p.m.

When first responders arrived at 401 SE Fourth St., they located a man inside the residence with serious injuries.

The man was transported to the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital by Humboldt Ambulance. He was later airlifted to a Des Moines hospital for further treatment.

His current condition is unknown. The man’s name is being withheld until notification to his family can be made.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the State Fire Marshal Division to assist. The investigation into the cause of the explosion is ongoing. Gilmore City first responders and Humboldt County Emergency Management also responded.

Law enforcement said the explosion is an isolated incident and the public is not in immediate danger.
