ROLFE — An Algona man is facing an attempted murder charge following a shooting incident in Rolfe earlier this month.

The Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to 102 Grant St. in Rolfe on Sept. 12 after witnesses reported a shooting.

According to a news release, Joshua Jordan Schmidt, 18, of Algona, “allegedly pointed and fired a shotgun at another person” after an argument over property had broken out at that residence. Schmidt then fled the scene on foot with the shotgun.

The subject who was shot at was not injured in the incident.

Schmidt was taken into custody without incident following an “exhaustive search” in the early hours of Sept. 14, when he was charged with attempted murder, a Class B felony. He was booked into the Pocahontas County Jail and held on a $25,000 cash bond.

The Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Laurens Police Department, Pocahontas Police Department and the Pocahontas County Attorney’s Office.
