Fort Dodge garage fire remains under investigation

The Fort Dodge Fire Department continues to investigate the cause of a fire that destroyed one detached garage and damaged another along Avenue E Friday night.

The fire was reported at about 9:15 p.m. at 312 Ave. E.

When firefighters arrived, the garage was fully engulfed by the flames.

In the pitch black, the orange glow from the inferno lit up the neighborhood.

Dozens of neighbors watched from street corners as firefighters worked the scene.

The garage contained some fireworks. The fireworks produced color and explosions into the air.

The fire spread to another garage nearby and damaged it.

According to Fort Dodge Fire Chief Steve Hergenreter, both houses in front of the garages were vacant.

No vehicles are believed to have been in the garages, Hergenreter reported.

Anyone who may have seen activity around the area at the time of the fire or shortly before is encouraged to contact the Fort Dodge Police Department at 515-573-1426. Tips can be submitted anonymously to Webster Crime Stoppers at 515-573-1444, or by texting “LEC” and the tip to 274637.
