CHC working with IDPH to ensure accurate reporting

Community Health Center of Fort Dodge said on Wednesday that it was the community clinic that the Iowa Department of Public Health and Webster County Public Health had been working with this week to resolve some COVID-19 testing issues.

On Monday, the WCPH released a statement that antigen test results from one local clinic were coded as polymerise chain reaction, or viral test, results in the Iowa Disease Surveillance System. The department also said there were approximately 3,000negative test results from the clinic that had been delayed in being reported to the IDSS.

With the correction of the errors and the submission of the delayed negative test results over the past few days, the county’s 14-day positivity rate has decreased from about 23% on Friday to 2% on Wednesday.

“The reporting process, like all other aspects pertaining to COVID-19 is more complex than what is visible at the surface level,” CHC said in a statement released on Wednesday afternoon.

The release continued, adding that all results, both positive and negative, have been reported to the IDPH on a daily basis.

“Due to the high volume of test results being reported, the system was overwhelmed,” CHC explained.

All positive test results from CHC are submitted directly to the IDPH system so that contact tracing can begin immediately. All negative test results were faxed to IDPH for manual input, CHC said.

“We are working with the IDPH in good faith to ensure all results are reported accurately,” CHC said.
