Webster Co. sees spike in cases over holiday weekend

47 new cases reported since Thursday

Webster County saw a spike in positive COVID-19 cases entering Fourth of July weekend.

The total number of positive cases reported from Friday through Sunday totaled 47, according to the state’s coronavirus website.

Twenty-six new cases were identified on Friday, the highest one-day jump in the county since testing began.

The increase comes at a time when several businesses are trying to stay open while navigating the complications of the virus. Local nursing homes and senior communities have been working toward a plan on allowing visitors on a limited basis.

The total number of positive cases in the county was at 218 on Sunday. Of those cases, 125 have recovered. Two people in Webster County have died as a result of the virus.
