To protect and serve: Matt Lundberg, Lieutenant, Fort Dodge Police department

Matt Lundberg

How long have you been in law enforcement?

11.5 years.

What other law enforcement positions/departments have you served in?

With the FDPD 11.5 years full time, five years before that as a reserve officer. I’m part of the Crime Investigation Department and Special Emergency Response Team.

What’s an interesting fact about you that some might not know?

I enjoy riding bicycles and have gone on RAGBRAI the past few years.

What’s the most memorable incident you’ve responded to?

I was dispatched to a woman having a baby in her home. When I arrived, I found out that dispatch had been given the wrong address. When I got to the correct address, the baby was born as I was walking up to the house. Shortly after that, the ambulance arrived and took both the baby and the mother to the hospital.

What’s the best part of your day?

The best part of my day is the start of my shift because I never know what the day is going to be like.

What gives you the most satisfaction in your job?

Working with officers and citizens to better Fort Dodge.

What’s the toughest part about your job?

Calls involving people suffering from mental illness issues can be very difficult. Many times the person doesn’t want our help so getting them the assistance they need can be very hard.
