One dead after motorcycle crash

The Iowa State Patrol, along with Webster County Sheriff’s Department and Dayton Police Department responded to a single-motorcycle crash on 290th Street west of Lehigh on Wednesday evening. The driver was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene.

LEHIGH — One man is dead following a single-motorcycle crash in rural Webster County on Wednesday evening.

At approximately 7 p.m. on Wednesday, a man riding a motorcycle was traveling westbound on 290th Street west of Lehigh when he failed to negotiate a curve and ended up in a ditch about a mile south of Dolliver Memorial State Park, according to Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Neil Morenz.

There was no passenger on the motorcycle, Morenz said, and the driver was not wearing a helmet. The driver died at the scene.

The Iowa State Patrol did not release the name or age of the driver on Wednesday night.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Dayton Police Department, Webster County Sheriff’s Department, Lehigh Fire Department, Dayton Rescue Squad and an ambulance from the Fort Dodge Fire Department. A LifeFlight helicopter was requested, but was canceled when the motorcycle driver died.
