‘Help Tracy get through this cancer’

Multiple bands will keep the Opera House rocking for hours on Sunday night. The goal of the night of entertainment will be to help a Fort Dodge man with expenses as he battles cancer.

The benefit for Tracy Ernst will start at 5 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person. All proceeds will go to Ernst.

Ernst is sales manager at Fort Dodge Ford Toyota. He was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma earlier this year.

Ernst has long been generous to others, according to friend Terry Cook. And Ernst really preferred not to have a benefit, but was convinced because of the music.

“He’s willing to allow the benefit to go on because he loves music,” Cook said.

Ernst is a guitarist for two acts — Scotty Roxtar Unplugged and The Beaver Creek Trio.

The benefit will feature live music from: Kosmic Brownies, Beaver Creek with special guest Brutal Republic, Scotty Roxtar, Riddled With Class, MGcc, Scott Kirkhart and Roger Netz.

Cook said the bands will play between 30 and 35 minutes each.

With how the venue is set up, Cook said there will be opportunities for people to social distance.

“We have the upstairs, the downstairs,” Cook said. “If they want to be on the porch outside you can still hear the music.”

Feed Shed Catering out of Moorland will be on hand.

“They are going to donate some money to the cause,” Cook said.

And Cook said the Fort Museum and Frontier Village won’t be making a dime for use of the building.

Fort Dodge Ford Toyota is paying for Andy Anderson to cover the lights and sound for the night.

Mojo Productions is helping to advertise the event.

Jared Wingert, owner of Mojo Productions, said it’s a chance to help out someone who has helped many.

“Tracy was one of the main people I saw at Archer (Audio and Video Appliances),” said Wingert, who has known Ernst for 25 years. “He’s one of the nicest people you’d ever meet, would do anything for anybody.”

Ernst worked at Archer for 10 years.

Cook hopes the community will rally around Ernst.

“We hope to have a good turn out and help him get through this hiccup in the road,” Cook said. “We didn’t want to do something he didn’t want. He agreed to do the concert deal. Let people come out and hear some great music and help Tracy get through this cancer.”
