FD woman dies in apartment fire Sunday

Cause of fire remains under investigation

One woman is dead following a Sunday afternoon apartment fire in downtown Fort Dodge.

At approximately 2:04 p.m., Fort Dodge Fire Rescue was dispatched to 629 Central Ave. for reports of smoke coming from an apartment.

Fire crews were met with heavy smoke in the apartment and upon searching, found an unresponsive adult female. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the fire.

The victim, who has not been named by authorities, has been transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office.

A neighbor in the apartment building had smelled smoke coming from the apartment and called 911. The smoke alarm in the apartment had been activated as well.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Fort Dodge Fire Rescue, Fort Dodge Police Department and the Webster County Medical Examiner.
