COVID-19 outbreak reported at FD prison

A total of 39 inmates and five staff members at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility have tested positive for COVID-19 after the first positive inmate was discovered on Thursday, according to new data from the Iowa Department of Corrections.

On Thursday, the count was one inmate and two staff members. Three staff members are now listed as “recovered.”

The new outbreak outnumbers the COVID-19 cases that were documented in Iowa’s prison system through last week. Before this week, 35 inmates tested positive, most of them residents of the Iowa Medical and Classification Center (Oakdale) in Coralville.

The IMCC has been used as the primary intake and quarantine facility for new inmates. Most of the positive cases there are now classified as recovered.
