To protect and serve: Matt Webb, patrolman, Fort Dodge Police department

Matt Webb

How long have you been in law enforcement?

I’ve been an officer for 12 years with the Fort Dodge Police Department.

What other law enforcement positions/departments have you served in?

I’ve been in law enforcement for 12 years, my entire career. I worked at the Webster County Jail for exactly one year prior to starting at the Fort Dodge Police Department.

What’s an interesting fact about you that some might not know?

I snore … loudly.

What’s the most memorable incident you’ve responded to?

While there have been too many memorable incidents to pick a favorite, one that sticks out was earlier in my career when a male stopped breathing and I performed CPR for several minutes until medical personnel arrived. The man made a full recovery and his wife wrote me a very nice thank you note that I still have today.

What’s the best part of your day?

Going home to my family after a successful day interacting, learning from and helping the community of Fort Dodge.

What gives you the most satisfaction in your job?

Connecting with people on a personal level, as human beings. There is nothing more satisfying than remembering who you are as an individual and who we all are in this community as equals.

What’s the toughest part about your job?

There are multiple factors in this profession that make it tough. One of the hardest, I would say, is being portrayed as a villain in many online and mainstream media outlets, regardless of what the truth may be.
