Foundation helps Iowa Central update auto program

Iowa Central Community College will buy the equipment needed to teach automotive students how to work on vehicle air conditioners with the aid of a nearly $6,000 grant.

The grant from the Iowa Automobile Dealers Foundation for Education will enable the college to provide a new level of instruction, according to college President Dan Kinney.

“This is something brand new to us,” Kinney said.

The foundation announced that it has given the college $5,775 to buy an air conditioning recovery and charging system. Kinney said the grant will cover the full cost of the system.

The Iowa Automobile Dealers Foundation for Education is a nonprofit entity established in 1995 by the Iowa Automobile Dealers Association to support educational, research and charitable activities.

“Basically, they are an amazing foundation,” Kinney said. “I appreciate the foundation for what they’ve done for not only Iowa Central but all community colleges as we strive to provide them with a trained workforce.”
