Seven people were evaluated and treated for minor injuries sustained in a two-car collision at the entrance to UnityPoint Health -- Trinity Regional Medical Center, Kenyon Road and Avenue E, on Sunday evening, according to Fort Dodge police.
Shortly after 6 p.m., a 2001 red Ford F-150 driven by Maria Martinez, of Fort Dodge, was traveling east on Kenyon Road and failed to yield for a left turn onto Avenue E.
The pickup truck struck a 1967 blue Chevrolet Camaro driven by Gregory Gernhart, of Fort Dodge, which was traveling west on Kenyon Road.
The Camaro then struck a light pole near the exit of the hospital parking lot, while the F-150 came to rest on the median between the incoming and outgoing lanes.
Martinez and two passengers in the truck, as well as Gernhart and three passengers in the Camaro, were all taken to TRMC for evaluation and treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Fort Dodge Police Department Sgt. Paul Samuelson said.
"For how bad the cars looked, thank heaven the people weren't hurt more seriously," Samuelson said. "They got pretty lucky."
Martinez was cited for failure to yield on a left turn.
