What’s your job at UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center?

I am an American Society of Clinical Pathologist board certified medical laboratory technician. (I work in the Lab)

How long have you worked at the hospital?

5 years

What’s the toughest part about your job?

Keeping up with change. The lab world is constantly changing. Test code changes, performing labs changes, equipment changes, staffing changes. We are constantly evolving and changing.

What’s an interesting fact or two someone might not know about you?

I love to try new things. I recently took up sewing and crafting. I think the last time I touched a sewing machine was in eighth grade, but I figure if I can run an EXL Chemistry analyzer, I can definitely work a singer and a cricut!

How has the COVID-19 pandemic changed what you do on a daily basis?

COVID has added a lot of extra steps in my daily routine to help keep everyone safe. More PPE, extra cleaning and more wardrobe changes.

If you could have dinner with someone famous, who would it be?

Ellen DeGeneres. She is so kind and funny and that is the kind of people I like to be around.

What’s the best part of your day?

Seeing people happy. I love when I walk into a department and hear laughter. When a patient smiles and says, “thank you”. Smiles are contagious and we don’t have to be scared to catch them.
