Investigation continues into Thursday shooting incident

Fort Dodge police say that several people between the ages of 15 and 20 were involved in a shooting on Thursday night in the 800 block of South 15th Street.

An unoccupied 2014 Chevrolet Impala crashed in the 1300 block of Mason Drive as officers responded to multiple calls of shots fired in the area around 8:15 p.m. The vehicle sustained significant damage from the crash in addition to what appeared to be bullet holes, according to Capt. Ryan Gruenberg, public information officer.

As officers discovered that vehicle, a 2012 Dodge Journey with gunfire damage was located in the 1600 block of Eighth Avenue South.

Initial investigation suggests that two groups of people fired at each other in the 1400 block of Eighth Avenue South that night, firing an estimated 40 shots at each other. Both vehicles involved were occupied during the shooting and fled before becoming disabled and abandoned.

Gruenberg said bystander property damage was limited to one home and vehicle not involved in the incident. No injuries were reported.

A 17-year-old male was arrested during the course of investigation on an unrelated charge.
