Fort Dodge City Council moves to sell land to Amigo’s

Contract awarded for South 30th Street work

Land that seems like it is part of the Amigo’s property at 280 N. First St. soon will actually belong to that establishment.

What appears to be the parking lot immediately in front of the business is the dead end of North First Street, and the lawn where the volleyball court is located also belongs to the city government. But on Monday, the City Council set out to change that.

The council unanimously approved the first reading of a measure to give up city ownership of that portion of North First Street. The council must approve that measure two more times for it to become effective.

The council also voted 6-1 to sell the land where the volleyball court is to MWC LLC, which owns Amigo’s, for $1. MWC LLC is owned by Webster County Supervisor Mark Campbell.

Council members Kim Alstott, Neven Conrad, Dave Flattery, Andy Fritz, Terry Moehnke and Lydia Schuur voted yes. Councilman Jeff Halter voted no, saying he could not support the sale until after all three readings of the right-of-way measure had passed.

Just up the hill from Amigo’s is another piece of property that is used as a parking lot. MWC LLC had leased that property from the city government since 2005. On Monday, the council voted unanimously to sell it to the business for $2,500.

In other business Monday, the council:

∫ Hired Fort Dodge Asphalt to rebuild 30th Street between Fifth and Eighth avenues south and Seventh Avenue South between 25th and 31st streets at a cost of $585, 989.

∫ Bought property at 122 Second St. N.W. from Timothy Tracy, of Fort Dodge, for $7,000. The land is considered necessary for a future street project.

∫ Hired Allers Associates Architects, of Fort Dodge, to design a second addition to the firehouse at a cost of $95,000. That addition will be on the front of the building and will house administrative functions.
