A building at 1103 Central Ave. was heavily damaged in a fire Thursday morning, and the building next to it, which houses some apartments, was also damaged.

One firefighter was injured.

Fire Chief Steve Hergenreter described the fire as “very violent.” He said a smoke explosion forced firefighters out of the building.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
