Finding the Easter spirit

Baker, Ball families to provide baskets for children

With most Easter holiday celebrations being called off over the continuing spread of the coronavirus, two families decided to try their best at showing their giving spirit.

Todd and Amanda Baker of Baker Electric, their three children, and Dan and Sharie Ball, of Ball Plumbing, will be handing out 200 Easter baskets from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday.

The event will take place at 1986 Kountry Lane in Fort Dodge with both drive-thru and pick-up options available.

“Every year we have a family Easter Egg hunt,” Todd Baker said. “With the social distancing recommendations, we are not able to have our hunt. That got us to thinking about what an Easter Egg hunt means on an even larger scale, and how kids won’t be able to enjoy that this year most likely.”

The idea behind the giveaway is a chance to help out those less fortunate at a time when many are struggling to make ends meet.

“How many kids would be impacted by this?” Amanda Baker said. “So we thought we could help fill that void and provide Easter baskets for the families that won’t be able to attend, as well as the families that are currently out of work.”

There is also a possibility of a special guest appearance during the event.

“Who knows, maybe the Easter Bunny will even show up to help hand the baskets out,” Todd Baker said. “All of us are excited to help brighten the day for some kids that otherwise might have been without this special season.”
