There were no injuries reported following a Thursday morning collision between a Dodge Journey SUV and two semitrailers near the Valero Renewables ethanol plant west of Fort Dodge, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
According to Sgt. Aaron Smidt with the Iowa State Patrol, at around 9 a.m. a westbound semi-trailer was stopped in the turning lane on Iowa Highway 7 to turn south into the Valero plant when an oncoming vehicle traveling eastbound, the Dodge Journey SUV, drifted into the center turning lane for "unknown reasons" and "struck that semi basically head-on."
After the Dodge Journey struck the first semi, it spun around and collided with a second semi that was sitting at the stop sign on Hayes Avenue, leaving the Valero plant to head eastbound toward Fort Dodge.
There were no complaints of injuries, Smidt said.
As of Thursday evening, the ISP had not released the names of any of the drivers or the owners of the two semi-trailers.
No citations have been issued in connection with the incident.
"Not yet, but I would imagine there will possibly be charges with that after the trooper finishes the investigation," Smidt said.
The investigation is still ongoing.
