FD schools foundation sending middle schoolers to musical

More than 500 fifth and sixth graders from Fort Dodge Middle School will have the opportunity to see the Iowa Central Community College production of the musical “Newsies,” thanks to a donation from the Fort Dodge Community Schools Foundation.

All the FDMS fifth and sixth graders will attend the matinee performance at Decker Auditorium, which is scheduled for this morning.

“It’s just something we thought was important,” said Nik Moser, FDCSF director. “The foundation’s here for items that don’t necessarily fall in the budget of the school district, so items like this is something that we feel like is important for us to step up and help with.”

In total, the foundation is providing more than $2,500 for the student tickets to the musical.

“I hope they have fun, first and foremost,” Moser said. “And I hope they walk away with something that they feel like this is an area they can get involved in, in school and learn something from it.”

While the FDCSF aims to support students and the schools, Moser notes that the community can help by supporting the foundation.

The Fort Dodge Community Schools Foundation annual fundraiser “Go Big, Go Dodgers” will be April 3 at Fort Frenzy, 3232 First Ave. S.
