Defendant in Green State robbery pleads not guilty

Pretrial conference set for May 4

The man nabbed by Fort Dodge police outside Green State Credit Union after a reported armed robbery there earlier in March pleaded not guilty in a written arraignment Monday.

Ted Hammersley, 29, of Fort Dodge, is charged with first-degree robbery, a class B felony; going armed with intent, a class D felony; assault while participating in a felony, a class D felony; and carrying weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor.

Fort Dodge police apprehended him just outside Green State Credit Union, 1207 Central Ave. (the former location of First American Bank), after they say he robbed it with a knife on March 3. Matching a detailed description given by credit union employees, he was found in possession of a knife and an undisclosed amount of cash as he attempted to leave on foot.

No employees were injured during the incident. The assault charge was due to the threat of physical injury, said Capt. Ryan Gruenberg, public information officer for the Fort Dodge Police Department.

A pretrial conference is scheduled for May 4 with a jury trial to follow on May 12. Hammersley has invoked his right to a speedy trial within 90 days.

The defendant remains in Webster County Jail, held on a $112,000 cash-only bond for all charges.
