DCI: No charges in death of Webster City woman, child

WEBSTER CITY — No charges will be filed and the investigation has concluded into the death of a Webster City woman and her infant daughter, according to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

Mariangelys Figueroa Ortiz, 28, and her 3-month-old daughter, Abimelec Ortiz Figueroa, were found deceased on Nov. 10, 2019, at 721 Des Moines St. Autopsies were performed on both individuals by the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office. Autopsy results indicated that Mariangelys Figueroa Ortiz’s cause of death was ligature hanging and manner of death was suicide. Her daughter’s cause of death was unknown and the manner of death was undetermined.

At approximately 8:13 a.m. on Nov. 10, Webster City police officers responded to the residence following the report of a roommate who had discovered two bodies. Both decedents were residents of 721 Des Moines St. Webster City Police Department requested the assistance of the Iowa DCI to conduct a death investigation.

The DCI, along with the Webster City Police Department, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office have concluded the investigation into this matter.
