Fort Dodge police are conducting a death investigation at 116 Ave. D. Officers first arrived on scene at about 10:30 p.m.

UPDATE: At 4 p.m. Friday, Fort Dodge Police Department released an update identifying the man who died as Dorrell S. Jackson of Fort Dodge.

Officers responding to a domestic disturbance Thursday at approximately 10:20 p.m. found an unresponsive man in the front yard of 116 Avenue D who later died.

Officers began medical treatment on the man, age 51, who was later pronounced dead at the scene by Webster County Deputy Medical Examiner Mark Gargano.

The man had likely died after someone ran over him with a vehicle, Fort Dodge Police Department said in a statement Friday morning, after investigating the scene with an Iowa State Patrol traffic investigator.

Police believe that the woman involved in the domestic dispute was the driver of that car, according to Capt. Ryan Gruenberg, public information officer.

“She’s our number one suspect,” given the circumstances at the moment, he said.

Officers called to the scene were notified in the emergency call that the man and woman involved were possibly in a physical altercation.

The woman involved, who is in her 30s, had left the residence when officers arrived, but stayed in the area to speak to them. Authorities are still in the process of determining whether the death was accidental or intentional.

“We have no other witnesses to what happened, so we’re relying heavily on what we’ve been able to obtain at the scene,” Gruenberg said.

No arrests have been made yet in the case. FDPD and the Iowa State Patrol were assisted by the Fort Dodge Fire Department and Webster County Sheriff’s Office.
