Two passengers were injured in a crash northeast of Palmer in rural Pocahontas County on Tuesday after two vehicles collided at an intersection. At 8:28 a.m., the accident at the intersection of Pocahontas County Roads C49 and N65 sent Gary Hoeppner, 64, of Manson, to Pocahontas Hospital via ambulance with serious injuries. Matthew Bauer, 49, of Pocahontas, was transported to Pocahontas Hospital by a third party. His injuries were listed as minor. Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Sgt. Steven Henderson said an investigation at the scene determined that Bauer, driving a 2002 Buick Rendezvous east on C49, failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with N65. He was struck broadside by Hoeppner’s northbound 2014 Dodge Ram pickup truck. Bauer was cited for failure to obey a stop sign. Both vehicles were deemed a total loss. Palmer First Responders, the Palmer Fire Department and the Manson Fire Department assisted at the scene.
