Storm Lake man dies after Humboldt County crash

HUMBOLDT — A Storm Lake man died Friday morning after rolling his pickup truck several times south of Gilmore City, according to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.

Leonard Peterson, 82, was reportedly traveling eastbound on 270th Street when the vehicle drifted to the north shoulder then swerved back to the south.

Peterson overcorrected and lost control of the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado, according to officials.

The truck went into the south ditch where it rolled several times. It came to rest of its wheels.

According to police, after the vehicle came to rest, Peterson drove the vehicle through the field toward a nearby field driveway before getting stuck.

The crash was reported at 11:15 a.m. in the 1100 mile of 270th Street.

Humboldt deputies, Gilmore City firefighters and ambulances from Humboldt and Gilmore City, responded.

Peterson was transported to the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
