FDCF officer assaulted Sunday night

Parties involved were not identified Monday

A Fort Dodge Correctional Facility officer was assaulted by an inmate on Sunday night, according to the Iowa Department of Corrections.

At approximately 10:15 p.m., an officer, who was not identified, responded to a cell where inmates had started a fire.

When the officer entered the cell, an inmate, who was not identified, began punching and kicking the officer, according to a release from the Iowa DOC. The inmate then attempted to attack another officer, who used pepper spray to subdue the inmate.

Corrections officers immediately extinguished the fire, and no damage or injuries were reported as a result of it.

The officer that was assaulted was evaluated and treated by on-site medical staff for injuries. The inmate did not appear to have any injuries, the DOC said.

The incident remains under investigation by the Iowa DOC.
