Minnesota woman killed in Hamilton County crash

WILLIAMS — A Minnesota woman was killed after the vehicle she was driving crashed into the back of a semitrailer late Wednesday afternoon in rural Hamilton County, according to Iowa State Patrol crash reports.

Catherine Pesavent, 27, of Afton, Minnesota, was driving a 2003 Subaru Legacy northbound on Interstate 35 just before 5 p.m. when road conditions caused her to lose control and collide with the back of a parked semitrailer, the Iowa State Patrol reported.

The semitrailer was parked on the right shoulder near mile marker 140.

The driver of the semitrailer, who was not named in the report, had stopped to assist in an emergency involving an unrelated collision, according to the ISP.

Pesavent was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Sgt. Aaron Smidt, of the Iowa State Patrol.

The ISP was assisted by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, Williams EMS and Fire, and Blairsburg EMS and Fire.
