Fort Dodge City Councilman Dave Flattery won re-election by a landslide Tuesday, winning 75.31 percent of the votes in Ward 3.

He received 610 votes, easily sweeping aside challenger Richard Higgins.

Higgins won 197 votes, or 24.32 percent, according to unofficial election results released by Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate.

Flattery secured his fifth term representing the ward. He was an at-large member of the council from 2008 to 2011.

“I’m pleased to win,” Flattery said. “I want to thank the residents of Ward 3 for supporting me all these years. I look forward to serving with a forward-looking council.”

“I think the future is bright,” he added. “I’m pretty excited.”

He thanked Higgins for participating in the race.

“Congratulations to Dave,” Higgins said Tuesday night. “I wish him luck.”

Ward 3 is the northeastern side of the city.
