The shooting was reported at 8:05 p.m. Friday night the 1400 block of A Street West.

Officers and paramedics with the Fort Dodge Fire Department found Mohammed Yaqoub, 28, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at a brown house that is behind the Tom Thumb Drive Inn restaurant. Yaqoub was unresponsive.

Paramedics performed life-saving measures on Yaqoub, but were unsuccessful.

“The injuries were too severe and the male was pronounced dead,” Gruenberg said.

Gruenberg reported Yaqoub suffered from multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigators later determined the people involved had arranged to meet each other for a drug deal, according to Gruenberg.

Police believe Yaqoub was visiting the Fort Dodge area and did not live in the community.

According to Gruenberg, investigators also believe the area where the shooting occurred âhad no significance, other than being a place to meet.”

“We have reason to believe that those involved had arranged to meet prior to this incident, isolating this incident to those directly involved,” Gruenberg said.

Damion Chavez

Police charged the 16-year-old with first-degree aiding and abetting robbery, a class B felony. That person has been transported to the Central Iowa Detention Center in Eldora to await further court proceedings.

Police are not releasing the teenager’s name at this time.

Arrest warrants have been issued for Damion Lamont Chavez, of Fort Dodge.

According to police, Chavez has outstanding arrest warrants for first-degree murder, a class A felony; and first-degree robbery, a class B felony.

Police described Chavez as an African American man, standing at about 5 foot 11 inches tall and weighing about 185 pounds.

Webster County Crimestoppers are offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the direct whereabouts or apprehension of Chavez.

Chavez is considered armed and dangerous.

“We are continuing to follow up on information being provided and encourage those who may have knowledge of this incident to contact law enforcement,” Gruenberg said.
