Man shot, killed on west side of Fort Dodge

Police continue investigation; name of victim not released Friday night

Fort Dodge police are investigating a homicide after a man was shot and killed on the city’s west side Friday night, according to Capt. Ryan Gruenberg.

Police were called to the 1400 block of A Street West at 8:05 p.m. for a report of a man who had been shot.

Officers and paramedics with the Fort Dodge Fire Department found the man at a brown house that is behind the Tom Thumb Drive Inn restaurant. He was unresponsive.

Paramedics performed life-saving measures on the victim, but were unsuccessful.

“The injuries were too severe and the male was pronounced dead,” Gruenberg said.

Gruenberg reported the victim suffered from multiple gunshot wounds.

Officers secured the area with crime scene tape before 9 p.m.

One woman exited the Tom Thumb restaurant to learn that her vehicle was parked within the crime scene. Officers told her she would have to come back for the car at a later time.

Police continued the investigation Friday night and planned to review surveillance footage available through nearby businesses.

The Webster County Medical Examiner arrived on scene sometime after 9 p.m. to begin a death investigation.

Police are withholding the name of the victim until all family members have been notified.

No arrests have been made in connection to the crime.

Webster County sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene also. The deputies later handled one domestic disturbance call in the city while Fort Dodge police were working at the shooting scene.

“We are still in the early stages and information is continuing to develop,” Gruenberg said.
