Shooting victim identified
Police investigation continues
The Fort Dodge Police Department has identified the victim of Tuesday’s shooting as 17-year-old Daiqualis Poe after notifying family and friends of his death.
The Fort Dodge Senior High student was shot Tuesday inside the home of 721 N. Eighth St., where 911 was called at approximately 12:45 p.m.
“No new information has developed overnight that we are able to share at this time,” police Capt. Ryan Gruenberg said in a statement Wednesday morning. Further updates will be shared in upcoming releases, should more details become available.
Webster County Medical Examiner Dr. Dan Cole pronounced the unresponsive victim dead on the scene inside of the North Eighth Street home Tuesday after first responders arrived. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation was called in from Des Moines, arriving hours later where they processed the scene to explore the possibilities of how Poe was shot.
Gruenberg said the victim suffered a single gunshot wound, but declined to specify where on the body or who was holding the gun when it went off.
Investigators have not yet ruled on whether to classify the shooting as accidental, intentional, a homicide or a suicide given the variables they found in evidence at the scene.
