Underwood to run for council at-large seat

Jim Underwood has entered the race for the at-large seat on the Fort Dodge City Council.

He is a Fort Dodge native who has not run for public office before.

The candidate said that if he is elected he would ”listen to the people and try to do the best for the community as a whole.”

Councilman Neven Conrad holds the at-large seat to be filled in this year’s election. He has not yet announced if he will seek a second term.

Underwood, of 347 Fourth St. N.W., is an assistant manager at Hy-Vee Wine and Spirits in Fort Dodge. He has been a Hy-Vee employee for 19 years, and has worked at the Wine and Spirits location for 12 years.

He is a graduate of Fort Dodge Senior High School. He is a member of the Fort Dodge Shrine Club.

Other candidates who have entered the race so far are Justin Myers (Ward 2), Councilman Terry Moehnke (Ward 1) and Councilman Kim Alstott (Ward 4).

Nominating petitions for the City Council election must be filed by 5 p.m. Aug. 29 at the City Clerk’s office in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S.

The election will held on Nov. 5.
